High intake level ‘planning for future’
24 November 2011
The highest number of newcomers for several years has been taken on by chartered accountants Lovewell Blake to develop careers in accountancy or tax advice.
Among the 14 newcomers 12 are school leavers or graduates while Zahra Chandra at Lowestoft and Lorraine Bell at Great Yarmouth join the firm with some previous experience.
This year’s intake was chosen from almost 250 applications — a number which Lovewell Blake training partner Keith Shorten believes may well increase in future with the high level of university fees and student loans.
“Accountancy offers one of the few professional qualifications which does not require a degree,” says Mr Shorten. “You can gain valuable practical experience while studying for the qualification, getting paid and with full study support — a form of apprenticeship.
“As a firm we need to recruit to provide for our business growth and also to ensure a continuous flow of qualified accountants and tax professionals for the future, which is very important in a competitive accountancy employment market.”
Joining the staff at the new offices at Bankside 300 on the Broadland Business Park, Norwich, are Katie Reading, Loren Taylor, Georgia Ottaway, Robbie Peart and Jay Kotecha.
Five trainees are also based at the Great Yarmouth office — Ross Akers, Vanessa Grant, Harlen Metcalf, Lorraine Bell and Zoe Cox.
Zahra Chandra, Tom Denby and Toby Gosling are working in the Lowestoft office at Oulton Broad, and Shona Barnes at Thetford.
