Brexit: Time to take stock

By: Colin Fish, Managing Partner Date: 24 June 2016

Like all of us, you will be digesting the news that Britain has voted to leave the European Union in yesterday’s referendum. Inevitably, thoughts will now turn to the consequences of the vote.

The one certainty about the result is that we are now facing a period of uncertainty as the long-term implications – political and economic – will take some time to emerge. It is clear that the UK is in for a period of turmoil in the short-term, as this morning’s market reaction, and the announcement by David Cameron that he is to stand down as Prime Minister, have demonstrated.

Over the coming days and weeks we will all need to take stock of what the short- and long-term consequences are likely to be. It will be important that people do not take major decisions based on knee-jerk reactions, because the market is likely to be very volatile in the short-term.

At Lovewell Blake we will be carefully analysing what is happening. Please do feel free to speak to your usual contact at the firm to discuss any concerns you may have about your plans, either today or in the coming weeks.
