Learning at work week

The week of 13-19 May is Learning at work week. A week designed to raise awareness of the importance of continual learning in the workplace. As a firm of accountants we understand the benefits of lifelong learning better than many.

The benefits of providing workplace learning
The UK has recently seen unemployment figures fall to the lowest level since 1975, and with many industries reporting skills gaps, recruiting for experienced hires can be a difficult, timely and expensive process. Planning ahead and recruiting apprentices will enable an organisation to train both new and existing staff to have the exact skills required for their specific business needs. Not only are apprenticeships a great way of filling skill gaps but with the Government Levy they also prove a very cost effective method of training. Higher and degree level apprenticeships are also available to develop future leaders.

Offering training to staff throughout their career helps to increase your workforce's level of competency, capacity and communication which can lead to improved levels of productivity, performance and employee retention. Training and development also enables employees to keep their technical and market knowledge up to date. This not only ensures that your customers receive the best service possible but enables your business to keep up with market trends and competitors also.

Workplace leaning at Lovewell Blake
In order to maintain their knowledge and skills all of our accountants are expected to undertake a certain amount of CPD (Continuous Personal Development). This sense of importance around continued learning is instilled at all levels of the organisation and staff are positively encouraged to learn throughout their career. Additionally, throughout the year we take on a number of employees on training contracts – and not just accountants.

Our traineeships and apprenticeships see staff embarking on a professional qualification, as well as gaining hands on technical experience. We fully support staff through our study package which includes paid time out of the office to attend training with course providers as well as paid study leave prior to exams.
