Preparing for a no-deal Brexit - VAT registered businesses

By: Liz Hill Date: 17 January 2019
Category: VAT

With 29 March, and the UK’s exit from Europe imminent, now is the time to start making preparations for a possible no-deal Brexit.

If your business trades with the EU it is important to register for an Economic Operation Registration and Identification (EORI) number. This will allow you to continue to import or export goods with the EU after 29 March if no deal is struck. You also need an EORI number before you can apply for certain authorisations that will make customs processes easier.

If you don’t already have an EORI number then you can register for one at gov.uk. It will only take a few minutes. It is also worth deciding if you will make import/export declarations yourself, or hire an agent to do it on your behalf.

HMRC has published further guidance on preparing for a no-deal Brexit, which you can find here.
