A temporary amendment has been made to statutory sick pay regulations which sees employee’s being able to self-certify for 28 days opposed to 7 days.

This will mean employees only need a ‘fit note’ for absences which exceed 28 days (including non-working days). This amendment has been put in place to help the NHS with the roll out of the booster vaccinations and will be in place until the end of 26 January 2022.

This amendment will apply to those who are absent due to illness between 17 December 2021 and 26 January 2022. It will also apply to absences which commenced prior to 17 December 2021 but did not exceed 7 days on this date.
